Survey points to a 21,3% jump in grain production in Goiás

The second survey of the 2021/2022 grain harvest, published this Thursday (11/11) by the National Supply Company (Conab), brings an estimate of an increase in production, productivity and grain planted area in the State. In comparison with the 2020/2021 harvest, production should reach 28,8 million tons (+21,3%); productivity, 4,5 tons per hectare (+16,2%); and the planted area, 6,5 million hectares (+4,4%).

“Conab data confirms the positive expectations that the sector has for the new harvest, after a complicated cycle from a climate perspective. With these results, Goiás maintains fourth place among the states that lead grain production in the country, accounting for almost 10% of national grain production”, states the head of the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), Tiago Mendonça. According to Conab, Goiás should have a share of 9,9% of total grain production in Brazil.

The main product in Goiás’ agro-related agenda, soybeans are forecast to grow by 2,9% in production. The total volume harvested should exceed 14,1 million tons in the 21/22 harvest, against 13,7 million in the 20/21 harvest. The Conab survey reports that, in Goiás, thanks to high levels of rainfall, planting advanced at a speed above the historical average: 55% of the area destined for cultivation had already been sown at the beginning of the last week of October, and in Rio Verde, Jataí and Montividiu this percentage rose to 70%.

In addition to soybeans, the expectation is for an increase in production in 7 of the 13 products surveyed in Goiás: sunflower (69,0%), 2nd harvest corn (64,6%), wheat (39,9%), sorghum (26,6, 22,8%), seed cotton (22,7%), lint cotton (2%) and 4,6nd harvest beans (1%). The State must register stability or reduction in the volume of grains produced in 13,6st harvest beans (-3%), 6,1rd harvest beans (-1%), 1,2st harvest corn (-0,8%), upland rice (- 0,6%), irrigated rice (-0,0%) and sesame (XNUMX%).

Brazil

According to the National Supply Company, national grain production is expected to grow 14,7% and reach 289,8 million tons in the 2021/2022 harvest. The expectation for the total area sown in the country is 71,8 million hectares, an increase of 4,1% compared to the last cycle. With a forecast volume of 142 million tons, Brazil should maintain its position as the world's largest producer and exporter of soybeans. Among the main crops, there is also a forecast of an increase in the production of corn, cotton and beans.

LSPA

This Thursday, the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) was also released. The LSPA indicates that sugarcane production in Goiás should record a decline (5,4%) in the current harvest, with a volume of 72,7 million tons. The forecast is also for a decrease in Arabica coffee (-8,8%) and tomatoes (-4,5%). Orange (12,4%), grape (11,0%), cassava (10,9%) and banana (5,4%) crops are expected to grow in the State, compared to the last harvest.

Stocking

Another data released by IBGE this Thursday was that of storage. According to the Institute, Goiás advanced 18,4% in quantity stored in the first half of 2021. There were 4,6 million tons of grains stored in the first six months of this year, against 3,9 million in the same period of 2020. Rio Verde occupies fourth position among Brazilian municipalities with the largest quantity stored — behind only Rio Grande (RS), Ponta Grossa (PR) and Sorriso (MT). The 700,1 thousand tons stored in Rio Verde in the first half of 2021 represent an increase of 45,9% compared to the same period last year and set a record for the municipality, considering the series started in 2007.

Jataí occupies the 12th position in the storage ranking of Brazilian municipalities, with 542,8 thousand tons. At the state level, the top three positions are Rio Verde, Jataí and Cristalina (273,4 thousand tons).
