Planning can prevent frost losses in wheat
The forecast of a winter with mild temperatures and rainfall at the historical average may favor wheat cultivation in the South Region
Rice producers in the Uruguaiana region (RS) had good productivity results for the crop that has just been harvested. With an average of 191 bags per hectare, the performance of the 2019/2020 harvest was better compared to the previous harvest, when rice farmers suffered serious losses due to excessive rain.
The data was obtained during the survey of production costs carried out on Tuesday, June 23, by technicians from the Campo Futuro Project, a CNA initiative, in partnership with the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea/Esalq/USP).
The meeting was held via videoconference, a security measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19), and brought together rural producers, technicians and representatives of the Agriculture Federation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Farsul).
Preliminary results from the panel highlighted the productive situation of a modal property in the region, with an area of 400 hectares of rice cultivation. According to CNA's technical advisor, Thiago Rodrigues, the good result was a reflection of some management practices, combined with good climatic conditions and the use of full-cycle rice cultivars.
“The producers and technicians who helped with the survey stated that this year was crucial for producers to recover the losses and decapitalization of the previous harvest,” he said.
Regarding marketing prices, producers indicated an average value of R$55,80 per bag and a Total Cost of R$52,09/sc.
“The scenario drawn by the survey reflected the good moment highlighted by producers. For the production model defined for the Uruguaiana region, it was found that all expenses related to disbursement, depreciation and the opportunity cost of using capital and land were covered, thanks to good productivity and the commercial prices practiced”, he explained.
