Emater/RS is collecting data for the initial projection of the harvest of the main summer crops, including estimates of cultivation area, productivity and production. This information will be released next Tuesday (29/08), during the 46th Expointer, which starts on Saturday (26/08) in Esteio.

The sowing of corn, one of the main summer grains, continues to be expanded, covering a greater number of regions in the State. The operation is more advanced in the West Region and started more timidly in the Northeast.

In the administrative region of Emater/RS de Bagé, on the Western Border, the occurrence of precipitation partially replaced humidity, revitalizing plant growth, ensuring a favorable stand in newly established corn crops. In Manoel Viana and São Borja, environmental conditions were favorable both for the planting process and for the pre-planting desiccation operations of the crops to be established.

In the Santa Rosa region, corn planting was intensified and crops exhibited excellent germination, due to favorable weather conditions, including rain and high average temperatures in this atypical winter. This scenario resulted in excellent plant population density. However, the lack of frost during winter can lead to an increase in the incidence of pests in crops, including the corn leafhopper. In this context, the implementation of control measures may be necessary, which, in turn, may influence the increase in production costs.

winter crops

Wheat - at the moment, 62% of crops are in vegetative development, 30% in flowering and 8% in grain formation. The rains of recent weeks have benefited crops, especially those sown late. The productivity outlook for the crop was maintained, as there was adequate germination, and the crop is performing within normal parameters.

White Oats - the culture evolved quickly from phenological phases. Currently, 33% of crops are in vegetative development, 30% in flowering, 24% in grain filling and 10% in maturation. The harvest was carried out in 3% of the crops.

Canola – with a significant advance in the development phases, only 5% of crops are in vegetative development, approximately 40% are in flowering, 45% in grain filling and 10% in maturation. Some crops have already been harvested, but do not yet have statistical representation.

Barley - the high temperatures for the winter period, the high incidence of solar radiation and adequate soil moisture are accelerating the progress of the development phases. The current predominance is of vegetative development, covering 75% of the area; 22% is in the flowering phase; and 3% in the grain filling stage. Crops managed with appropriate techniques demonstrate high productive potential. Overall, the crops look good, benefiting from the favorable weather conditions to date.
