One of the main agricultural solutions companies in the world, Sumitomo Chemical has renewed its support for the Sou de Algodão Movement, a project launched in 2016 that aims to unite the entire chain, from producer to final consumer, to awaken sustainable consumption of the product in Brazil, which, according to the movement, is the largest supplier of responsible cotton in the world. Sou de Algodão highlights sustainability, respecting the environment, labor legislation and quality, all with traceability in all links in the chain.

The initiative was created by the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa) and the Brazilian Cotton Institute (IBA). “We have products that are essential for Brazilian cotton farming, such as the acaricide Smite and the growth regulator Promalin. Support for the Sou de Algodão Movement is part of a project by Sumitomo Chemical to contribute to the segment”, says the manager of Insecticides and Cotton Culture, Suellen Drummond (in the photo above).

“We, at Abrapa, are immensely pleased with the renewal of Sumitomo Chemical’s support for the Sou de Algodão Movement. This engagement of the entire production chain is very important. It shows an alignment of purposes by promoting a raw material that is responsible in its way of producing and which, due to its natural attributes, is environmentally friendly. Cotton generates social development and leaves a positive legacy for future generations, and that is everything our supporters want”, highlights the president of Abrapa, Alexandre Schenkel.

In addition to Sou de Algodão, Sumitomo Chemical supports the “Cotton that heats” project, which donates 100% cotton coats to students at rural schools in western Bahia, the second largest cotton producer in Brazil, behind Mato Grosso.
