Sugarcane producers need to be well prepared when the rain arrives in the Southeast

To partially reverse the current scenario of loss of productivity in farming, the farmer will have to invest now in technology for application

The water deficit in the Southeast region has been keeping sugarcane producers up at night, as this problem is what causes the most impact on crop productivity. However, just waiting for the rains to arrive, without being well prepared to apply the best management practices, will not be enough to change the current scenario of sugarcane fields. The interaction of climatic conditions and good management practices will ensure that the crop is used productively, minimizing the impacts already caused.

According to the director of Southeast/Northeast Business at ADAMA Brasil, Caio Giusti, it will be possible to partially reverse the situation if the producer is well structured at this moment and ready to use the best techniques when the rain arrives. An example would be the adoption of modern technologies such as biofertilizers – also known as biostimulants –, which can help increase results in sugarcane areas, when applied at the ideal time. “This type of product acts not only in the construction of plants that are more tolerant to abiotic stresses, but also, mainly, as growth promoters, as they activate important metabolic pathways in plants, increasing productivity levels”, he states.

ADAMA, in addition to producing agrochemicals, has a portfolio of biofertilizers, such as ExpertGrow, which contains algae extract and nutrients. “The search for increased productivity has seen the adoption of biofertilizers grow in recent years and the tendency is for these products to continue gaining relevance, as the demand for food is growing and will increasingly require the use of modern technologies such as biostimulants” , reinforces Giusti. “Our clients have achieved productivity increases that can reach rates of approximately 10ton/ha, when all agronomic practices have been carried out - results proven on more than 500.000ha marketable by ADAMA with an expert”, reveals Giusti.

Although ADAMA is well prepared to meet market demand, Giusti explains that it is best to secure the product before the rains arrive. “With the logistics problems that China faces today, if everyone decides to place their orders in an emergency, there may be delays in deliveries and the producer may have to wait a few days to make the application, not having 100% use of the associated weather conditions. to more complete management”, he warns.
