By the end of March, mills in the North and Northeast had processed 56,8 million tons of sugarcane, maintaining the good performance of the 2024-2025 harvest. The data is from NovaBio, which represents 35 mills in 11 states. Sugar production grew 8,3% compared to the same period of the previous harvest, reaching 3,72 million tons. Hydrous ethanol production increased by 24,8%, totaling 1,39 billion liters.

According to Renato Cunha, president of NovaBio, the increase in Total Recoverable Sugar (ATR) per ton offset the 3,3% drop in productivity caused by the lack of rain. Despite the drought, sucrose levels were higher, favoring production.

Total milling for the harvest is expected to reach 58,5 million tons, a slight drop of 2% compared to the previous cycle. Sugar remains the region's main export product, destined for Asia, Europe, North America and Africa.

Anhydrous ethanol, mixed with gasoline, fell 19,7% and closed March with 855,9 million liters. Even so, the total ethanol produced (anhydrous and hydrated) increased 3,1%. Physical stocks of the biofuel reached 320,4 million liters, an increase of 27,4%.

Among the states with the highest milling, Alagoas (17,58 million tons), Pernambuco (13,46 million tons) and Paraíba (7,22 million tons) stand out.
