A technology developed by Embrapa, which combines profitability and environmental preservation, will be launched on Thursday (14/10), at 14pm. This is a consortium of sugar cane and corn (Canamilho). The launch event will be online and broadcast on Embrapa's YouTube channel.

The Canamilho technology modifies the sugarcane planting logistics, as it suggests anticipating the planting of the crop to the beginning of the rainy season. This extends the planting window and eases sugarcane planting, which is more concentrated in the month of March. According to experts, the intercropped sugarcane, considered as year-old sugarcane, presents yields compatible with year-and-a-half sugarcane.

According to the results obtained by the researchers, the renewal of the sugarcane field through the planting of sugarcane combined with corn is promising and economically viable. The technical talk at the event will be given by researcher João de Deus dos Santos Junior, from Embrapa Cerrados, leader of the project “Sugarcane and corn consortium for sustainable intensification of sugar and ethanol production in the Cerrado”.
