Influence of temperature on fuel consumption
Diesel temperature always affects specific fuel consumption, and when there is a biodiesel mixture, this behavior is even more influenced by temperature.
The study of soybean cultivars from the 2019/2020 harvest, released this Tuesday (07/07) by Sistema Farsul and Fundação Pró-Sementes, made it possible to identify which seeds produced the best results in adverse weather conditions in Rio Grande do Sul. The research , which analyzes the performance of 39 cultivars in eight locations in three soybean microregions, is a tool for producers to choose the variety with the most appropriate development for their planting situation, avoiding productivity losses. Two different sowing periods were evaluated.
According to the survey, the biggest difference in productivity between cultivars in the same region was 38 bags per hectare. The result was observed in Vacaria, a place that achieved the best rates in the study. This means that a producer who chooses the most productive cultivar would earn R$3.610,00 more per hectare than one who chose the worst performing variety for that location.
The weather conditions of the 2019/2020 harvest caused a great variation in the results obtained. The Vacaria region registered 108 bags per hectare, while other places, such as São Gabriel, did not obtain more than 42 bags per hectare. This is due to variations, such as excessive rain in October, which led to the development of fungal diseases, and drought in December and from February to May.
According to the research coordinator at Fundação Pró-Sementes, Kassiana Kehl, although the results of the last harvest were lower in general compared to the average of recent years due to climatic factors, the study provided important information: "it was an opportunity to evaluate the performance of cultivars, both in terms of production and behavior in the face of soil-related fungal diseases, and development in the face of high temperatures and water stress. For those who intend to use the study as a tool, it is important to highlight that it is not enough for the producer to observe the cultivar that obtained the highest productivity in your location. It is necessary to analyze which seeds performed consistently in the region, to increase the chances of obtaining a favorable result with planting", he warns.
The president of the Farsul System, Gedeão Pereira, highlights that the study becomes even more relevant in a scenario of difficulties and losses due to the climate: "With the soybean prices we have now, if we had had a full harvest, the rural producer would be satisfied. Unfortunately, we were not. We need more security and this work contributes important information for decision-making, in a reality where we have a state with very different scenarios", he states.
The superintendent of Senar-RS, Eduardo Condorelli, states that the study is in line with Senar-RS' mission of bringing the main technological innovations to the knowledge of rural producers and guiding them in transforming information into productivity and profitability: "No There is bad technology, but there is poorly applied technology. It is the opportunity for producers to have access to the best technology, which is the one that works in their reality, based on technical and scientific criteria", he highlights.
The study was carried out by Farsul and Fundação Pró-Sementes, and was sponsored by Senar-RS and Bayer. It can be accessed address using this link . Farsul will also distribute to Rural Unions the printed publication of the results for each harvest.
