In the last four months, the impacts of the new coronavirus pandemic began to establish new forms of relationships around the world. In Brazil, these effects began to be experienced more specifically, starting in March, when social isolation measures were implemented in states and municipalities.

Given this scenario and also aware that agribusiness needs to maintain its activities to guarantee the population's supply and access to food, Bayer, in partnership with Sicredi, Orbia and AgTech Garage, launched, on March 31, the "Covid-19 Challenge: digital solutions for agribusiness ". The initiative was created with the aim of promoting the dissemination and adoption of reliable and high-impact solutions developed by startups for rural producers.

From now on, the solutions from these 20 selected companies are now available on the Orbia platform for free access. The tools will work in this facilitated way for rural producers across Brazil, for the next two months, helping them during the period of social isolation caused by Covid-19.

The "Covid-19 Challenge: digital solutions for agribusiness" is an initiative created by Bayer, Sicredi, Orbia and AgTech Garage, which brings together startups interested in offering, free of charge, digital solutions to empower rural producers and contribute to production and distribution of food for the population, ensuring supply and strengthening the economy.

"The evolution of the new coronavirus in Brazil is also a concern for the agricultural market, as Covid-19 has impacted not only the health sector, it has affected several sectors of society. To minimize the effects of the pandemic, restrictive circulation measures were adopted in most States, so that these social isolation strategies changed our style of living, working, consuming, getting around, in short, everything changed", explains the person responsible for the initiative, Dirceu Ferreira Junior, director of the Center of Expertise in Tropical Agriculture at Bayer Brasil.

For Cesar Bochi, director of administration at Sicredi, the initiative is fundamental at a time when Brazilian society, as a whole, needs collaborative actions. "Our permanent presence at AgTech Garage aims precisely to identify opportunities to support our members linked to agribusiness by promoting innovative solutions that help in their daily lives, and engagement in the 'Covid19 Challenge' has total synergy with this purpose. We have a strong connection with the rural environment, which plays a fundamental role in our society, and where we operate mainly for small and medium-sized farmers, who need all the support possible to continue their activity at this challenging time", explains Bochi.

The initiative aims to contribute to the maintenance of production, allowing farmers to continue to guarantee the population's supply and access to food. "Orbia specializes in connecting farmers and a network of suppliers, in order to facilitate their processes, do business and generate value", reinforces the CEO of the joint venture, Ivan Moreno.

According to José Tomé, CEO of AgTech Garage, one of the main innovation hubs in Brazilian agribusiness, "open innovation, through startups, is already a reality in Brazilian agribusiness, mainly due to the innovative potential and agility that these nascent technology companies provide for the market. These are essential characteristics for the moment we are living in. We are optimistic about this action, to massively connect producers with startups and minimize the impacts of the coronavirus on agribusiness", concludes the executive.

The startups' solutions are now available on the Orbia platform. To find out more, visit the website.
