The launch ceremony of Embrapa technologies at the Rural Show, in Cascavel (PR), will take place this Friday, February 8th, at 14:30 pm, at the Embrapa Technologies Showcase, with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply , Tereza Cristina, the president of Embrapa, Sebastião Barbosa, the governor of Paraná, Carlos Massa Ratinho Jr., the president of Coopavel, Dilvo Grolli, and the general head of Embrapa Soja, José Renato Bouças Farias. Two technologies will be launched: Fast-K, a nutritional assessment method for soybeans, and the BRS FP403 bean cultivar.

Fast-K – potassium assessment method for soybean crops

Potassium (K) is the second nutrient most required by soybean crops. On average, the plant exports 20 kg/ha of K2O for each ton of grain produced. When producers do not reapply quantities of potassium compatible with those exported, there may be a reduction in the availability of K in the soil. To assist decision-making in the field, Embrapa developed Fast-K, a quick method for evaluating the K content in soybean leaves, which is easy to use and interpret.

Fast-K's proposal is to improve the nutritional management of soybeans, based on the adoption of a methodology that uses a portable meter to read and interpret the results, eliminating the need for diagnosis traditionally carried out using laboratory techniques. “By carrying out the leaf test in the field, technical assistance gains time to make the best decisions regarding the correction of potassium deficiency during the current harvest, since potassium has a direct influence on productivity”, highlights researcher Adilson de Oliveira Jr., from Embrapa Soja.

BRS FP403 Beans

It is a high-yielding cultivar, with a potential of 4,7 kilos per hectare. It has a normal growth cycle (85-95 days) and is recommended for cultivation in 19 Brazilian states. BRS FP403 has a good root architecture with a very vigorous root system and is tolerant to fusarium wilt and dry root rot. Its grains are large and have industrial quality. It has plants with a semi-prostrate shape and insertion of pods high in relation to the ground, providing adaptation to direct mechanical harvesting.
