A sustainable vision for the future of agriculture was displayed at the Farm Progress Show, a fair held in Decatur, in the state of Illinois (USA). It was shown in the form of a methane-powered prototype tractor from New Holland Agriculture, a brand of agricultural machinery owned by CNH Industrial. The equipment was presented simultaneously at the North American event and to everyone, online, through a live broadcast at the New Holland stand.

Developed by New Holland's design and engineering team, this prototype is unlike anything ever seen in the industry. It combines alternative fuels and advanced agricultural technology with the advanced engine from FPT Industrial, also a CNH Industrial brand. The prototype's engine develops the same power and torque compared to diesel engines, which means identical performance in the field.

In this way, a farm can become completely energy independent, satisfying all its fuel and energy requirements, as well as those of the community, using waste in a closed and virtuous cycle. This is the next step in realizing the farm of the future, one that moves away from fossil fuel-powered vehicles and embraces renewable sources.

CNH Industrial brands are pioneers and market leaders in the development and commercialization of vehicles powered by natural gas. Biomethane represents the latest phase in the company's alternative fuels strategy. It is particularly suited to on-farm use by agricultural machinery as farmers already have the raw materials and space for gas production. This not only allows agribusiness to be self-sufficient in fuel, but also to be self-sufficient in energy.
