The 2018/2019 summer harvest is expected to generate an inflow of around R$31,29 billion into the economy of Rio Grande do Sul. The data was released this Tuesday (12), by Emater, during a breakfast held at Expodireto Cotrijal.

The entity estimates that the current harvest generates a total production of 31.958.728 tons, in a planted area of 7.638.082 hectares. The projection is 4,60% higher than the 30.551.928 tons recorded in the 2017/2018 harvest. In the last ten years, the projected volume is only lower than that recorded in the 2016/2017 cycle, with a production of 33.637.594 tons.

The biggest advance is projected in corn. In the last harvest, 4.514.545 tons were produced, with a productivity of 6.455 kg/ha. This season, a harvest of 5.522.224 tons is expected, with a productivity of 7.350 kg/ha, growth of 22,32%.

According to the president of Emater, Iberê Orsi, the growth of corn is related to the advancement of technology. "We need corn production to continue increasing. It is the great flagship in the production of meat and animal protein", says Orsi.

Soybeans on the rise

In relation to oilseeds, Emater data points to a productivity of 3.196 kg/ha and a production of 18.545.928 tons, which represents a positive variation of 5,70%. In the 2017/2018 harvest, 17.546.405 tons were harvested and a productivity of 3.047 kg/ha.

"This year is spectacular for soybeans. However, we industrialized very little", analyzes Orsi. He calculates that an increase in industrialization would result in economic gains for the State.

Rice - The only recorded drop is in rice farming. In the 2018/2019 harvest, Emater forecasts a production of 7.788.463 tons and productivity of 7.606 kg/ha. The data indicates a drop in production of 7,24%.

The drop in rice is mainly due to the floods that damaged crops in the main producing regions, such as Fronteira-Oeste. "In rice, with the exception of flooded areas, the projection is very good", ponders the president of Emater.

Bean - Emater projects that 1st harvest beans will have an increase in production of 8,64%, while 2nd harvest beans will have an increase of 5,32% (check the data in the table).

The data was collected from 101 municipal offices of Emater for rice cultivation, 225 for beans first harvest, 152 for beans second harvest, 397 for corn grain, 366 for corn silage and 351 for soybeans, in addition to 12 regional offices and the Central office.

The survey completed a sample that covered 94,4% of the area to be cultivated with rice, 82,9% with first-crop beans, 94% with second-crop beans, 90,5% with grain corn, 90,8% for corn destined to silage and 93,3% to soybean area.
