SoyTech, the BASF soy seed licensing brand, is preparing a series of launches and news for the Brazilian soy producer for the 2021/22 harvest. In total, the portfolio now has 32 varieties, characterized by high genetics, technology and excellent stability and adaptability to different growing regions.

Present throughout Brazil, the brand works with the RR, Intacta and Intacta 2 Xtend platforms, which is part of the third generation of biotechnology, inserted in nine of the materials offered. The focus, however, is based especially on genetics, a strong point of SoyTech. “Genetics is the basis for SoyTech’s growth. We invest in research and development to offer a robust and high-performance portfolio”, says BASF Latam Soy Improvement Leader, Gabriela Andrade, proudly.

Variety parade

The flagship of the launches is headed by SOYTECH 700 I2X, an early variety, with a high grain weight (192g) and high productive potential. With an indeterminate growth habit, maturation group 7.0 and Intacta2 XTend technology, it stands out for its cultivation range from Paraná, passing through Mato Grosso, Goiás, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais.

The SOYTECH 700 I2X variety presents excellent performance in areas where cotton is a succession crop, in Mato Grosso. In pre-launch, it achieved productivity of more than 80 bags per hectare, even with the summer climate that characterized the period. “It is a very stable material, with excellent adaptability, which stands out even in adverse conditions, highlighting its high production potential”, celebrates SoyTech Brasil Business Leader, Graziela Morais.

More options for the producer

Cerrado producers can also count on SOYTECH 794 I2X, a material with excellent stability and adaptability in different regions, with an indeterminate growth habit, with 7.9 maturation, excellent clinging potential and tolerance to lodging.

For the South, the SOYTECH 621 I2X is an option that has high production potential, rapid initial development, high racking capacity, as well as good positioning range. It has maturation group 6.2, indeterminate growth habit, and has moderate resistance to phytophthora rot.

SOYTECH 490 I2X has an indeterminate growth habit and is super precocious, with a maturity of 4.9 and a high potential for mating.

SOYTECH 591 I2X, in turn, has high production potential, high tangling capacity, is moderately resistant to phytophthora rot and tolerant to Asian rust.

SoyTech also has a wide-ranging solution that ranges from the state of São Paulo to the cultivation areas of southern Brazil, such as Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. This is the SOYTECH 580 I2X, resistant to various breeds of phytophthora rot and high grain weight (210g).

Rising brand focused on simplicity

The acquisition of SoyTech occurred in 2018 when BASF acquired Bayer's seed business along with the licensing brand. The origin of the business, however, occurred in 2008 when a group of researchers placed it on the market. Since then, the brand has been repositioned with a focus on simplicity and making every effort to meet customer expectations. “We value ease in trading and accessing the market. The brand is recognized for being easy to work with and for its excellent service to producers and their partners”, explains Graziela.

Plans for the future are for constant growth. By 2028, SoyTech intends to reach second place among licensed seed brands in Brazil. “From 2030 onwards, we aim to lead the Brazilian soy licensing market”, projects the SoyTech Business leader.

Currently, the SoyTech brand is present in most seed producers in Brazil. “We have a wide network of seed producers who are our partners and who today, together with SoyTech, bring quality genetics to Brazilian farmers, contributing to productivity”, says Graziela.

One of the objectives pursued by SoyTech is that more and more of the brand's seed supply reaches the field. “To this end, we have structured ourselves to ensure that all farmers can learn about our products. We build showcases throughout the country and the search is continuous to strengthen our team. The farmer is the focus of everything we do. To achieve this, we are structured around some pillars, such as positioning that generates ease and agility, with a focus on people who can take our genetics to the field and implement them with excellence”, he concludes.
