The soybean sowing calendar in Santa Catarina has been exceptionally extended. This decision was regulated by Resolution No. 04, of December 20, 2023, of the State Secretariat for Agriculture/Cidasc. The exceptional climate of this last quarter, which caused losses to farmers, was the main justification for the extension. The rains delayed planting and led to the replanting of crops that preceded the second harvest of soybeans, making it necessary to extend the end of the planting window by 20 days.

The end dates for soybean planting for the State of Santa Catarina established by Ordinance SDA/MAPA nº 20, of September 886, 12, are extended by 2023 days, as follows:

- Region I (South of the state): until March 01, 2024;

- Region II (North Plateau to Alto Vale do Itajaí): until February 19, 2024;

- Region III (West): until February 19, 2024;

- Region IV (other regions): until January 30, 2024.

The extension responds to the request presented to the State Secretariat for Agriculture and Cidasc by the Organization of Cooperatives of the State of Santa Catarina (Ocesc), the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Santa Catarina (Faesc) and the Federation of Agricultural Workers of the State of Santa Catarina ( Fetaesc). “We seek to regionalize the calendar to meet the needs of producers without compromising health control. This achievement is the result of joint work”, says the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Valdir Colatto.

The manager of the State Department of Plant Health Defense at Cidasc, agricultural engineer Alexandre Mees, recalls that together with the proposal for a regionalized calendar sent to Mapa at the beginning of September this year, through SAR, it was requested that Cidasc, as a state body of plant health protection, could exceptionally authorize planting beyond the periods defined by MAPA.

Asian Soybean Rust Control Program

Ordinance DAS/Mapa No. 865, of August 2, 2023, establishes the National Program for the Control of Asian Soybean Rust – Phakopsorapachyrhizi (PNCFS) within the scope of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. Among the PNCFS's phytosanitary measures are the sanitary void, the sowing calendar and the prohibition of planting soybeans on soybeans, that is, if the first harvest on the property was soybeans, the second must be another crop.

 The second soybean harvest is characterized by the cultivation of grain in areas cultivated in the first harvest with corn, onions, tobacco, beans, among others. In addition to these measures, the Ordinance determines that states must maintain a register of soybean producers.

From January 1, 2024, all soybean plantations must be registered with Cidasc using a form available at www.cidasc.sc.gov.br/defesasanitariavegetal/culturas/. The registration of soybean plantations must be carried out by property, within 10 consecutive days after the end of planting on site.
