The soybean health gap period begins this Monday, June 2, for the northern, northwestern, central-western and western regions of Paraná, which are part of Region 2 of the schedule defined by the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa). The measure will continue until August 31, with the authorization for planting the oilseed from September 1, 2025, ending on December 31.
During the sanitary break, it is forbidden to cultivate or keep live soybean plants in the field. The measure aims to prevent the plant from becoming a host for the fungus that causes Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi), the main disease of oilseeds, due to its severity, ease of spread, high cost of control and potential to reduce crop productivity.
In Paraná, the sanitary break periods were divided into three stages, according to the state's different microclimates. The definition was made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), with the aim of establishing the most suitable periods for planting and reducing the spread of the fungus.
Adapt – The Paraná Agricultural Defense Agency (ADAPAR), linked to the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply, is responsible for inspections throughout the state of Paraná, and must apply the penalties provided for in the legislation to producers who fail to eradicate live soybean plants during the sanitary vacuum period. The agency is also responsible for monitoring and enforcing the dates for the planting window of the crop in the state.
The Adapar Plant Health Department (DESV) emphasizes that it is important for all farmers to adopt this precaution on their properties. The agency emphasizes that the sanitary measure will only be effective with the monitoring of all locations that may contain live soybean plants and the immediate elimination if any are detected.
Ordinance No. 1.271, of April 30, 2025, of the Ministry of Agriculture's Agricultural Defense Secretariat, establishes the rules for the soybean health gap.
Na Region 1, which covers the municipalities of the South, East, Campos Gerais and Coast of Paraná, the sanitary vacuum begins on June 21 and continues until September 19. Planting can be carried out from September 20, 2025 until January 20, 2026.
Region 2, which covers the North, Northwest, Central-West and West of Paraná, begins on June 02nd and continues until August 31st, with sowing starting on September 1st and ending on December 31st.
Na Region 3, which includes the municipalities in the Southwest of the State, the sanitary break begins on June 12 and ends on September 10. Sowing is authorized between September 11 and January 10, 2026.
