Ban on the active ingredient paraquat in agrochemical products in Brazil
The production, import, marketing and use of technical products formulated based on the active ingredient paraquat would be prohibited.
Valuing innovation, sustainability and efficiency practices is one of the main goals of the Brazilian Soy Strategic Committee (CESB). Through the CESB Challenge, regional producers are encouraged to increase their soybean productivity using smart technologies, and thus they are rewarded for their performance. On [date to be seen], during the Regional Forum for Maximum Soy Productivity, producers from the North/Northeast region will be included.
For CESB's Marketing Director, Nilson Caldas, the action is an important way of recognizing and valuing regional producers, who are increasing average productivity rates. “By holding the event, we will help soybean farmers extract the crop’s maximum potential, combining two fundamental points: sustainability and profitability”, says the director.
The champion of the 12th CESB NO/NE Challenge is Condomínio Milla, a property that is in its first family generation with 15.197 hectares dedicated to soy production. In the 2019/2020 harvest, 101,8 bags of soybeans were produced per hectare (sc/ha). The national average, according to the National Supply Company (Conab), was 55,5 sc/ha. The production was consulted by Luis Gabriel de Moraes Jr.
Since the property is located in Baixa Grande do Ribeiro (PI), the climate was one of the main advantages of production, combined with the contribution of organic matter to the soil and the general quality of agricultural techniques.
The strategies used to achieve excellence in cultivation will be discussed at the Regional Forum for Maximum Soy Productivity, a free online event. Consultant Luis Gabriel de Moraes Jr. will talk about it accompanied by researcher Sergio Abud, effective member of CESB and researcher in the genetic improvement and management program for soybean crops. The debate will be mediated by Leandro Zancanaro, also an effective member of CESB and a master in Soil Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.
The complete case for the North/Northeast Region is now available for download on the Cesb website, along with the other champion cases.
