Soja Plus presents a review of activities carried out in 2019

This Thursday, November 28th, the Soja Plus Brasil 2019 Seminar was held at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), in Minas Gerais. The meeting brought together 340 members of Associations and Federations in the agricultural chain, to present the results of the Soja Plus Program in 2019 and the prospects for next year. Soja Plus is the largest private technical assistance program offered to Brazilian rural producers and aims to continuously improve the environmental, social and economic management of rural soybean-producing properties, through action plans drawn up by specialized technical teams. .

The Seminar featured lectures and discussions on important topics related to sustainability in the soy chain. The first on changes in land use and carbon fixation potential in soybean cultivation, taught by professor Marcos Heil Costa. And the second on water sustainability for sustainable expansion of irrigation and food production, presented by professor Everardo Mantovani. Both professionals are members of the Agricultural Engineering Department at UFV. The meeting also featured courses from Banco do Brasil on agricultural projects and agricultural credit and specialists in occupational health and safety.

For Bernardo Pires, sustainability manager at the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (ABIOVE), the entity that leads the program, Soja Plus has played a very important role in consolidating the best sustainability practices within soybean producing farms. “Soja Plus is fundamental to generating better social and economic opportunities in the main producing regions, supporting the entire production chain in the sustainable growth that is so necessary for Brazil to continue to lead the competitive international soy market”, he states.

In addition to ABIOVE and UFV, the Seminar is attended by the Brazilian Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia (AIBA), the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Minas Gerais (FAEMG), the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (FAMASUL), the Association of Rural Producers and Irrigators of the Northwest of Minas Gerais (Irriganor), the National Rural Learning Service of Mato Grosso do Sul (SENAR/MS), Banco do Brasil and in addition to companies such as Cargill, Riber Sementes , KWS Sementes, and Instituto BioSistéticos.
