Family farming in recent years has been one of the main drivers of the Brazilian economy. According to a survey carried out by the Government of Brazil portal, small producers are responsible for generating annual revenue for the country of US$55,2 billion. This means that, if Brazil had only family farming, it would be in 8th position in global agribusiness, among the largest food producers in the world. With the aim of allowing this category of rural producers access to the same most advanced and efficient technological tools on the market, Orion Tecnologia e Sistemas Agrícolas Ltda., from Pompéia (SP), a company that has been developing equipment for applications for over 50 years of liquid products within the planting furrow, became part of the Federal Government's program to encourage family production, Pronaf Mais Alimentos.

According to Alexandre e Silva Santiago, financial director at Orion, It is very important for the company to be integrated into this program, which allows family farmers access to the most advanced equipment for applying liquid products within the planting furrow, with interest subsidized by the Federal Government. This cutting-edge technology, which until then was only available to medium and large farmers. “For Orion, the most important thing is the certainty that it is contributing to increasing the income of family farmers, through increasing their productivity and the quality of their products, with sustainability and environmental preservation”, he says.

Localized application at variable rate, within the groove

Mapping nematode patches using satellite images is one of the alternatives that producers have today to make the best decision when combating this soil pest. Aiming to provide more efficiency, safety, economy and practicality in the fight against this terrible pest, Orion also offers family farmers electronic equipment that applies nematicide only to the reboleiras (localized application), with a great reduction in costs, environmental impacts and sustainability, through its national distribution network.

This process has become increasingly relevant, as it allows the application of various chemical and biological inputs, such as: inoculants, nematicides, fungicides, insecticides, rooting agents, humic and fulvid products and others, with extreme precision and safety at the time of application. planting.

“Family farming has always been based on techniques and not on technologies and the lack of adequate financing made it inaccessible and limiting increased productivity. Access to these new tools puts family farmers on the same technological level as large producers”, highlights Santiago.

Orion also offers, through one of its companies, CYGNI Agrociência, an internet platform, which allows access to satellite images in a simple, fast and low-cost way. Through them, it is possible to locate, visualize and georeference existing anomalies in a given area anywhere on the planet, speeding up and reducing sampling costs.

According to the Orion executive, the direct gains for producers who will have access to direct application technology in the furrow are many. “There is an increase in productivity, income, optimization and maximization of inputs, gradual recovery of soil microbiology, elimination of mechanical damage and seed losses, improvement of seed distribution in the soil, improvement of the quality of harvested products, reduction of consumption of water, eliminating risks and dosing errors and contributing to the preservation of the environment. This operation generates value in the planting process and knowledge of new technology for farmers, opening up new horizons for them”, concludes the director.
