Cooperativa Arrozeira Palmares turns 60 years old with expectations of new markets
With investment in technology, infrastructure and management, the cooperative expects to achieve revenues of more than R$150 million in 2021
Technical teams and the leadership of Sipcam Nichino Brasil will hold a program of in-person and online events until December, with the aim of launching the Ohkami insecticide. The new solution, specific to the control of the tomato moth (Tuta Absolute), according to the company, showed surprising results in the management of the main tomato pest, in joint studies with experts Regiane Oliveira, from the Agrimip group (Unesp de Botucatu- SP), Sergio Benvenga (Inspecta Pesquisa e Consultoria) and Agrosynthesis Pesquisa e Consultoria.
The company's first events take place in the state of Goiás, in Goiânia and Cristalina. Next, it will be the turn of Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro and Araraquara, Guapiara, Itapeva and Campinas in São Paulo. Online launches are scheduled for December 6th and 8th.
“These will be special moments. After the success of the Takumi® insecticide and the Click herbicide, launched between 2020 and the beginning of 2021, we are now reinforcing to the market Sipcam Nichino Brasil's commitment to agriculture and innovation”, highlights Alexandre Gobbi, CEO of the company.
The marketing director, Leandro Martins, states that Ohkami brings to tomato farming a “true revolution” in controlling the tomato moth. “This is a cutting-edge solution, resulting from a cutting-edge molecule.” According to Martins, the insecticide originates from the new molecule Tolfenpyrade, a patent from Nihon Nohyaku (Nichino) from Japan.
According to him, data collected in pre-launch studies showed that Sipcam Nichino's new insecticide controls 93% to 100% of eggs from one, two and three days of incubation. “Ohkami reduces the fertility of adult insects of Tuta Absolute, reducing the ‘laying’ of eggs by up to 93% and making up to 71% of them unviable, laid by adults who had contact with the product.”
The crops manager, Carulina Oliveira, highlights that the research also compared Ohkami to other insecticides used in the management of Tuta absolute, including four so-called 'premium' products. According to her, the control indicators of the new Sipcam Nichino product, applied alone, reached 93% to 100% effectiveness, against four populations of 2nd instar caterpillars (about 2 cm in length).
“In absolute terms, the studies concluded that Ohkami reduced the number of live caterpillars in crops by more than 80%”, says Carulina. Another difference, she adds, in addition to the insecticide resulting from a new molecule, is the product's mechanism of action. “It is the only insecticide to control tomato moth registered in the country with the mechanism of action ‘Inhibition of Complex I in the Electron Transport Chain. Thanks to this attribute, Ohkami avoids cross-resistance from Tuta Absolute.”
According to the management of Sipcam Nichino Brasil, the new Ohkami is now available for sale.
