The National Rural Learning Service (Senar) started, on Thursday (13), the Precision Agriculture Seminar, held in a virtual format to train more than 260 instructors from the institution across the country.

The training aims to introduce precision agriculture technology to new instructors. Professionals who already work in this area will also have the opportunity to update their techniques.

“Understanding new concepts and terms in precision agriculture are extremely important. Certainly, the content of the seminar will contribute to the work of instructors with rural producers and workers”, highlighted the director of Professional Education and Social Promotion at Senar, Janete Almeida.

Precision agriculture involves the management system and the use of geotechnologies with the aim of reducing costs and increasing productivity in agriculture.

In the first meeting of the seminar, professor Cristiano Zerbato addressed the general concepts of precision agriculture, the main aspects and geographic information systems.

“FAO forecasts indicate population growth and indicate that by 2050 the growth in global demand for food will be 40%. Brazil has the greatest potential in the world for food production and precision agriculture plays a fundamental role in this process”, he highlighted.

The Senar Precision Agriculture Seminar has six modules and will continue until November 17th. In the next modules, participants will deepen their knowledge of GNSS and Automatic Steering; Georeferenced Soil Sampling and Geostatistics; Varied Rate and Productivity Maps; Agricultural Remote Sensing and Agriculture Drones.
