About 500 producers tested RefúgioMax, Monsanto's Refúgio corn
Monsanto announced that approximately 500 Brazilian producers planted RefúgioMax hybrids on an experimental basis this harvest season
On the afternoon of August 3rd, Embrapa Uva e Vinho and the Association of Agricultural Engineers of Encosta Superior do Nordeste (Aeane) promote the seminar "Grape: New cultivars tolerant to old diseases", in the auditorium of the research company (Rua Livramento , 515 - Bento Gonçalves-RS). The program will feature lectures by researchers from Embrapa Uva e Vinho, Adeliano Cargnin and Patrícia Ritschel, and the Technical Director of Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo from Italy, Eugenio Sartori.
The use of vine cultivars tolerant to fungal diseases, such as downy mildew or powdery mildew, especially in regions with a humid climate, such as Serra Gaúcha, represents many benefits. According to researcher Adeliano Cargnin, simplified management, with a reduced number of product applications, for example, is a favorable point. "The tolerant grapes have better quality, as the plant is healthy, the leaves can carry out photosynthesis better. Tolerant cultivars are a good option, as, in short, they represent lower economic and environmental impacts", he points out.
The development of cultivars tolerant to downy mildew fits into the perspective of more sustainable production, which has been a priority concept for Embrapa's Grape Genetic Improvement Program, since its beginning in 1977. In the wine segment, the Program has already developed tolerant cultivars, such as BRS Lorena and BRS Margot, whose wines resemble products made with European grapes. "Other advanced selections, following this same concept, are being tested and should be launched soon", comments researcher Patrícia Ritschel, who coordinates the Grape Improvement Program, together with researcher João Dimas Garcia Maia. More recently, the mildew-tolerant table grape cultivars 'BRS Vitória', 'BRS Isis, both seedless, and 'BRS Núbia', with seeds, were launched by the Program and their cultivation has been expanding rapidly in the region. Petrolina-Juazeiro.
The Italian Eugenio Sartori will present new alternative cultivars for making wine that are tolerant to downy mildew, the result of genetic improvement in Italy. Your lecture will feature consecutive translation.
