Biological Institute leads advances in biological control
More than 70% of the country's microbiological products use strains developed by the Biological Institute of São Paulo
After promoting events in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, the Interstate Tobacco Industry Union (SindiTabaco) and the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) are holding the Seminar on Decent Work in Tobacco Production in the city of Irati, Paraná. With the support of the Brazilian Tobacco Growers Association (Afubra), the Agriculture and Livestock Federation of the State of Paraná (Faep) and the Federation of Agricultural Workers of the State of Paraná (Fetaep), the event will take place on February 05 (Wednesday) at the Italian Events Center, starting at 8:30 am. The event will also be broadcast live on SindiTabaco's YouTube channel.
For the president of SindiTabaco, Valmor Thesing, it will be a moment to reinforce the guidelines regarding accommodations and the hiring of labor in family farming. The executive will be present at the event, together with representatives of the promoting and supporting entities, as well as the inspection bodies of the Ministry of Labor. The moment will also be the launch of the booklets Hiring of labor in Family Farming and Sustainable Work Program, which will be distributed to approximately 25 thousand tobacco producers in Paraná.
Irati is the fifth largest tobacco-producing municipality in Paraná. In the 2023/24 harvest, according to Afubra, Irati was responsible for the production of more than 8 thousand tons, by 1.104 producers. In the country, the municipality ranks 14th among the largest tobacco-producing municipalities. In Paraná, 118 thousand people are involved in rural areas with the activity, in 124 tobacco-producing municipalities. In the last harvest, tobacco generated R$ 3,1 billion in income for producers in Paraná: 138 thousand tons were produced, which corresponds to 27% of the total produced in the country.
