From the 22nd to the 24th of June, the 27th Hortitec - Technical Exhibition of Horticulture, Protected Cultivation and Intensive Crops will take place in Holambra. The event provides contact between participants and companies in the sector, in addition to providing useful information for the producer's work. The Department of Agriculture and Supply of the State of SP will be present seeking to showcase innovations that can increase yield and facilitate productive activity, and bringing knowledge about good practices and health.
APTA Regional shows diverse research that serves different regions of the State
APTA Regional, from the São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (APTA), will bring to the event's audience several results of its research activities that can favor the work of rural producers, in addition to offering possibilities for differentiating production. Check out:
Rapid Multiplication of Sweet Potatoes: the work is related to the production of seedlings with high health from small stem segments. From a few virus-free branches it is possible to produce a large quantity of healthy plants.
Bokashi: fermented compound made from agro-industrial waste, used as fertilizer and which improves the chemical, physical and biological properties of the soil.
Sustainability in the cultivation of leafy vegetables: research that proposes the introduction of cover crops into the production system and direct planting on straw, enabling a more sustainable production system, with a reduction in weeds, less water consumption, among other advantages.
Non-Conventional Food Plants (PANC): research covers agroecological cultivation methods, correct identification and techniques for using these traditional plants with high nutritional value.
Olive trees and oil: presentation by the Oliva SP Group, which organizes research, development and technology transfer activities to promote commercial exploitation of olive cultivation in SP.
New silver banana cultivar “VTP Hayashi”: has advantageous characteristics compared to the main cultivars planted in Brazil, such as greater productivity, length, diameter and mass of the fruit.
Peach palm heart: projects address progenies, soil improvers, organic fertilization and evaluation of peach palm clones.
Anthurium: APTA Regional maintains, in Pariquera-Açu, the Active Anthurium Germplasm Bank, a plant of great ornamental value. The cultivars, produced in partnership with IAC, have been conquering the national market.
Tupinambor: research aims to better understand the culture and develop management techniques for this plant, whose tubers have characteristics that are beneficial to health. Due to its good rusticity, it is considered an alternative to organic agriculture.
safe food: Research evaluated the action of sanitizers in reducing microorganisms in lettuce. Vegetable production must comply with Good Agricultural Practices, so that food is free from chemical, physical and biological hazards.
Fungi: within the scope of biological control, research uses entomopathogenic fungi associated with essential oils in the management of insect pests, especially in organic fruit and horticulture production systems.
Medicinal and aromatic plants: medicinal and aromatic plants, essential oils and hydrolates are researched with various applications, such as controlling pests and diseases in plants, herbal medicine and gastronomic preparations.
IAC takes certified potato seedlings and Quarantine activities to Hortitec
At the 27th Hortitec, the Agronomic Institute (IAC-APTA) will present certified in vitro potato seedlings, information about the Horticulture Center's other research activities and disseminate information about the activities of the IAC Quarantine, one of two existing in Brazil.
The public will be able to see the certified basic potato seedlings of IAC Aracy Ruiva, Ibituaçu and Vitória cultivars and commercial cultivars such as Agata, Asterix, Cupido and Markies.
Every two crops, potato farmers must purchase certified seed potatoes to install their crops. These pest and disease-free materials can be purchased domestically or imported. Certification guarantees the genetic and sanitary quality of the seed potato, presenting documents that prove the absence of diseases and viruses. “The use of certified basic seed potatoes with high health is a basic prerequisite for the success of potato planting”, comments IAC researcher José Carlos Feltran.
The IAC's in Vitro Micropropagation laboratory is registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) and is registered in the National Seed and Seedling Registry (RENASEM). All potato seedling cloning procedures and processes are carried out in this laboratory. The IAC Unit also makes significant quantities of certified in vitro basic potato seedlings available for the production of minitubers for producers and nurseries, in addition to also supporting IAC research. “We serve small to large producers, so we collaborate by making high-quality seed potatoes available to the state of São Paulo and the rest of the Federation”, says Feltran.
Producers can purchase pots for R$45,00 or each seedling for R$1,50. Feltran explains that in commercial potato cultivation there is an accumulation of diseases and viruses, which cause a sharp drop in the productivity and quality of the potatoes produced.
IAC has one of the two Quarantines in Brazil
Hortitec serves as a showcase, in which it is possible to clearly and easily present what a Quarantenary is and its importance in the agricultural sector, according to the researchers responsible for the IAC Quarantine, Christina Dudienas, Roberta Pierry Uzzo and Julieta Andréia Silva de Almeida. “Quarantenary activities aim to prevent the entry of exotic pests into Brazil through plant materials that arrive in the country for research purposes. This way, the Unit makes it possible to detect, identify and contain pests”, explains Roberta.
In 2021, the Quarantine received 230 quarantines, 30 thousand accesses, of tomatoes, soybeans, corn, eucalyptus, various ornamentals, as well as other species. Originating from various countries such as: USA, Argentina, France, China, India, Italy, Netherlands, Israel, Australia, South Africa, etc. Its importers are from multinationals, teaching and research institutes, universities, among others.
On average, 2.000 phytosanitary analyzes are carried out per year by the IAC. Those interested in the service must contact us via email, fill out the acceptance letter form, and wait for this document to be approved, which informs about the availability of space and time to carry out the service.
Agricultural Defense
Agricultural Engineers from the Agricultural Defense Coordination (CDA) will be available to the public for guidance and information regarding the Correct Use and Storage of Pesticides and the like and the State Program for the Analysis of Residues of Pesticides and the like in Products of Vegetable Origin (PEARA- POV). Veterinarians will also be present to guide producers on the regularization of animal farming and on the registration of artisanal industries producing products of animal origin.
