Second crop bean harvest already exceeds 50%

The beans from the second harvest are 50% harvested and the estimate is for an area 8% larger than last year, reaching 230,6 thousand hectares, according to the latest report from Deral - Department of Rural Economy of Paraná.

Around 76% of crops are of good quality. In the Southwest region, however, the rain of the last few days is expected to bring losses, but not too severe.

Production, initially projected at 430 thousand tons, reduced to 409 thousand tons, but there was a 33% increase in productivity this year, compared to last year.

The harvest is advanced. According to Deral's forecasts, this harvest will last until the first days of June, as, if it doesn't rain, it should intensify.

The production estimate for the second harvest shows an increase of 47% compared to the previous year - from 278 thousand tons to 408,7 thousand tons. “This increase represents a recovery in production after the 25% drop recorded in the first harvest due to weather problems, and the consequent increase in prices. Now, the opposite is happening: with greater supply, prices should fall”, explains Deral economist, Methodio Groxko.

Barley

Paraná is the largest barley producer in Brazil. Data from the monthly report show that the area remains similar to the 17/18-56 thousand hectare harvest, but production should increase by 16%, according to Deral's agronomist, Rogério Nogueira.

Last harvest, 220 thousand tons were produced. Now, the production estimate is 255 thousand. Around 31% of production has already been sold, especially in the municipality of Guarapuava, the main producer. There, farmers have already sold 50% of their production. Planting begins in June.
