Rumo publishes report on the first year of initiatives financed with Green Bonds resources

The company was the first in the history of freight railways in Latin America to issue Green Bonds worth US$500 million and maturing in seven years

Rumo released a balance of investments linked to Green Bond 2028 resources, carried out between July 2020 and June 2021. The Report was verified by an independent company, in accordance with the methodology of Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), and details the application of resources in eligible projects, such as new yards and extensions, track modernization and investments in rolling stock. In total, more than R$385 million were invested in the first year in initiatives that contribute to improving operational efficiency and reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The report presents a summary of the projects contemplated, including the construction, extension and duplication of yards, which, together with track modernization, are capable of serving 120-car trains. The acquisition, replacement and updating of locomotives and communication systems also received emphasis. Furthermore, the report highlights recent achievements by the Company, such as the expansion of capacity at the Rondonópolis terminal, works on recently opened terminals on the Central Network and the railway extension project in the state of Mato Grosso, which will connect Rondonópolis to the cities of Lucas do Rio Verde and Cuiabá.

First broadcast in Latin America

Having raised US$500 million and maturing in seven years, in June 2020, Rumo issued green bonds certified by the CBI, an international organization that works to mobilize the bond market for climate change solutions and independent evaluation by the consultancy Sustainalytics . The operation was marked as the first issuance of Green Bonds in the history of freight railways in Latin America.
