The number of women working in agribusiness continues to grow. According to a survey carried out by Cepea – Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics, from Esalq/USP, from 2004 to 2015, the number of women working in agriculture grew 8,3% and 54,41% of the increase in women in the job market should female participation in agriculture.

The strength of women in agribusiness will be highlighted during the opening parade of Expo Rio Verde, a traditional agricultural exhibition in the city of Rio Verde (GO), on June 30th. Coordinated by the group “Elas no Campo”, formed by 70 farmers and ranchers from the region and with the support of GPB Rosa, a group of women in livestock farming who represent more than 110 rural properties in 10 Brazilian states, the parade will leave the streets of Rio Verde pink.

“We will have women riding horses and dressed as cowgirls, symbolizing women who are involved in livestock farming; we will have women with tractors and agricultural implements; the woman having a barbecue and the woman with her children representing the family. Our objective in the parade is to represent women in the field and their ability to manage agribusiness, to care, to include, honoring women of the past, present and future in the mission of caring for and feeding the world”, highlights livestock farmer Verena Bannwart, coordinator of “Elas no Campo”.

Exclusive barbecue course for women
The day after the parade (1/7), at 19pm, an exclusive barbecue course will be offered for women, taught by “As Braseiras”, a group of professional women in the meat, gastronomy and barbecue segment that aims to strengthen and expand the female space in this market.

Lasting four hours, the course will cover topics such as introduction to meat production, with information on breeds and farming systems, guidance on fire, braziers and barbecues, meat handling, types of cuts and side dishes.

The course will be at Haras BS (BR 060 exit to Goiânia, next to the energy substation/FURNAS). Registration costs R$ 200,00 and can be made with Julia Galvão via WhatsApp – (64) 99964- 7770.

“GPB Rosa embraced the cause and to reinforce this manifesto we will take a pink tractor provided by John Deere to the parade. We will also have 'As Braseiras' sacramentalizing this movement with sacred fire, celebrating and representing nutrition. For us, the presence of women in agriculture and livestock farming is very natural, as women have always been present in the field, whether plowing, sowing, hunting, cooking, or taking care of the land and the man of the land. We are cyclical, just like nature and the different production systems. We are connected to the Earth”, points out Carolina Barretto, who coordinates communications at GPB Rosa.

GPB Rosa: the group of women in Brazilian livestock farming
Women from different Brazilian states, with properties in different production systems, a wide variety of cattle breeds, different profiles and who arrived at the activity through the most diverse paths. This is the mix that makes up GPB Rosa, a group of women derived from GPB – Grupo Pecuária Brasil, which brings together livestock farmers with a common objective: to exchange experiences and strengthen livestock farming led by women.
Formed three years ago, GPB Rosa currently has 73 active participants, representing 118 properties from 10 states, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Sul , Pará and Tocantins.
The exchange of knowledge at GPB Rosa is also marked by fun, a relaxed style and the friendship created by women, most of whom actually live on the “farm” and in the daily “work” of livestock farming. They are businesswomen, mothers, daughters, wives and leaders who seek knowledge and technology to continue making a difference in Brazilian livestock farming.

The Braziers
The “As Braseiras” movement was the means by which women passionate about meat and the production sector found to express this passion and encourage the correct consumption of meat, through the culture of fire and roasting. When women gather around the fire something very magical happens. Therefore, the group travels all over Brazil in order to disseminate this knowledge, providing this experience through the courses, lectures and events they promote.
