RS 2024/25 Harvest: soybeans see a 38% drop in productivity
Corn harvest advances, but weather remains an obstacle; producers seek securitization in the face of losses
According to the Integrated Agrometeorological Bulletin 22/2025, the trend for the next few days is clear weather with restrictions in some regions of the state, but with mild temperatures and gradual warming starting this weekend. The Bulletin is prepared by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi), in partnership with Emater/RS and the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga).
From this Friday (30/05), stable weather should prevail, keeping the cold throughout Rio Grande do Sul, with temperatures close to 0°C especially in Serra Gaúcha. This condition will remain in the following days, with a tendency for gradual warming between Saturday (31/05) e Sunday (01/06).
The trend for the period between June 2 and 4 indicates the formation of new areas of instability restricted to the north of Rio Grande do Sul. In Monday (2/06), an elongated area of low pressure is expected to develop in this region, causing rain between Monday afternoon and morning Tuesday (3/06). In other areas of the state, the weather will remain stable. In Wednesday (4/06), stable weather should prevail throughout Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the publication, the last seven days recorded the highest rainfall volumes, with accumulations above 100 mm, in the Western Border, Missões and Central region of Rio Grande do Sul. In isolated points in these areas, the totals exceeded 150 mm. In the regions of Campanha, Norte, Litoral and Serra, the accumulations varied between 10 mm and values below 100 mm. In the South of the state, the rainfall was less expressive, with records of up to 50 mm.
The soybean harvest is in its final phase. There are only a few remaining areas, corresponding to second crops or late planting, that have overcome the critical period of drought, but they represent a fraction of less than half a percentage point of the cultivated area and should not impact the state's average productivity.
The corn silage harvest was practically non-existent during the period, and approximately 99% was harvested.
The rice harvest is technically over, since the remaining areas are isolated and do not have statistical representation capable of altering the consolidated production results. Productivity is estimated by Emater/RS at 8.558 kg/ha.
The second bean harvest has reached 2%, limited by the predominance of rainy weather and high humidity in the crops. The maturing crops have reached 65%, and 30% are in grain filling.
The Agricultural Zoning of Climatic Risk (Zarc), as of 21/05, expanded the regions suitable for sowing wheat in the State, which resulted in the intensification of planting activities and an increase in the number of properties involved. However, the rainfall, recorded as of 24/05, temporarily interrupted the work, which should be resumed as soon as soil moisture conditions become adequate.
In terms of fruit, the highlight is the citrus harvest in the state. Pecans are also in full harvest, with good-sized almonds, but a smaller load than expected.
