Producers who need to plant soybeans outside the state's established calendar must request authorization from the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi) through an online form. If authorized, untimely sowing may be done until February 15. This is what is determined in the Informative of the Department of Plant Protection (DDV/Seapi), published this Monday (3/2).

The request for late authorization for soybean planting must be based on the following reasons: if soybean cultivation is subsequent to corn cultivation in the same area and within the same agricultural calendar; if planting will take place due to prohibitive weather conditions during the regular sowing period; and planting for seed production.

"We are responding to a demand from producers due to the drought, especially in the Planalto and Northwest regions. This exceptionality in the soybean planting calendar is already foreseen in two situations: in adverse weather conditions or for planting after corn, which is a strategic crop for Rio Grande do Sul", explains DDV director Ricardo Felicetti.

The soybean sowing calendar stipulated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) for Rio Grande do Sul this year ran from October 1, 2024 to January 28, 2025. This is a tool adopted within the scope of the National Program for Controlling Asian Soybean Rust. "With the calendar, there is more effective control of Asian rust, one of the main diseases of the crop. The method reduces the need for fungicide applications and minimizes economic and environmental impacts," explains Felicetti.
