The AgroBrasília soybean cultivar Competition is a highlight of the Fair, and its result is eagerly awaited by producers
On the 11th and 12th of February, the municipality of Condor became the state capital of corn cultivation, when more than 700 people attended the events of the fifth official opening of the grain harvest in the State. The meeting, held by the Association of Corn Producers of Rio Grande do Sul (Apromilho-RS) and the Brazilian Association of Corn Producers (Abramilho), in partnership with the City of Condor and the State Government, took place on the property of Sementes Costa Drink.
According to the president of Apromilho-RS, Claudio de Jesus, the meeting was a favorable environment for discussing good practices and the needs of corn producers in Rio Grande do Sul. “We have greatly improved productivity in recent years, and this harvest we should reach 5,8 million tons, but there are still some bottlenecks that we need to overcome to increase crop yields and the planted area,” he says.
On the first day of the event, the former Minister of Agriculture and president of Abramilho Alysson Paolinelli highlighted, in his talk, that this is an excellent time to plant corn in Brazil. According to Paolinelli, Brazil is becoming a major exporter of this grain, and this brings countless opportunities for producers, in addition to leveraging other agribusiness sectors and contributing to the results of Brazil's trade balance.
The second day of the event was marked by the presentation of new technologies that allow significant gains in productivity, such as the crop irrigation system that contributes to a yield of 200 bags of corn per hectare. Furthermore, producers had the opportunity to present important demands to the authorities present, such as the lack of insurance that really meets the needs of producers in the State, and also to ask for support to discuss, with pig, chicken and dairy producers, mechanisms to maintain corn price stability.
