The government of Rio Grande do Sul is implementing a series of measures to mitigate the effects of the drought and strengthen water resilience in the state. Among the actions, the construction of dams, drilling of wells and installation of cisterns, in addition to encouraging irrigation, stand out.

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi) has already received more than 670 irrigation projects, with an estimated state investment of R$22 million. Rural producers can receive up to R$100 in subsidies for the implementation of irrigation systems. 4,5 dams were also dug and wells drilled in 310 municipalities.

The Secretariat for Rural Development (SDR) is seeking federal support and promoting actions such as the Permanent Forum to Combat Drought. The Secretariat for the Environment and Infrastructure (Sema) has modernized environmental licensing to facilitate irrigation and water reserve projects.

Among the structural works, the Jaguari and Taquarembó dams, essential for the supply and irrigation of 117 thousand hectares, received new investments for their completion after years of inactivity. In addition, Civil Defense intensified the emergency supply of water to affected municipalities.

These actions are part of the Rio Grande Plan, the State's climate reconstruction and resilience program, aiming to guarantee water security for producers and rural communities.
