Weather conditions during the period were different in Rio Grande do Sul last week. According to the Conjunctural Information produced by the Planning Management of Emater/RS-Ascar, in partnership with the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr), and published on Thursday, October 8, in some regions, predominated dry weather, high insolation rate, wind and wide variation in temperature during the day. These variables reduced soil and air humidity, but without producing a significant impact on the crop. In others, regular low-intensity rains helped increase soil moisture content and contributed to improved crops. eIn the South region, the sharp drop in temperature caused the formation of low-intensity frost in the lowlands, which did not harm the plants. In the Santa Rosa region, 7% of the wheat area is already harvested; Frederico Westphalen, 8%; and Ijuí, 3%. Throughout the State, the harvested area still represents only 2% of the total cultivated. And 8% is in flowering, 32% in maturation and 58% in grain filling.
The weather behaved differently in different regions of the State. In those where dry weather prevailed, there was a decrease in crop development due to the reduction in soil moisture. In the regions where they occurred, regular rains increased the soil's moisture content, which, combined with good solar radiation and high average temperatures, allowed soybean sowing to begin and favored the vegetative development of rice, beans and corn.
In the Ijuí region, the low air humidity and the increase in temperature during the week contributed to the good development of vegetable crops, but intense use of irrigation was necessary.
In the Porto Alegre region, the renovation of sugarcane plantations has already been completed. The plants are in vegetative development; with the week's rain, they show good tiller growth and well-formed clumps.
