Recent weather conditions in Rio Grande do Sul, with mild temperatures and evenly distributed rainfall, have favored canola plant development, silique formation, and oil accumulation in the grains. So far, the harvest has reached 6% of the planted area. According to the Economic Bulletin released today (October 9) by Emater/RS, the projected area is 203.206 hectares, with a productivity of 1.737 kg/ha.

The crops are performing adequately, reaching the grain filling (55%) and physiological maturity (36%) stages. Some areas with early establishment problems have lower production potential. Nevertheless, overall performance is satisfactory, and the phytosanitary status is appropriate.

Emater/RS warns of the occurrence of the diamondback moth, which has been recurrent in several regions. Therefore, it reinforces the importance of constant monitoring and sequential applications of selective insecticides to prevent productivity losses.

Wheat

Wheat crops are moving into the final stages of their cycle, showing adequate vegetative and reproductive development. The report indicates that most crops are between the grain filling (58%) and physiological maturity (18%). Later sowings are still in the earing and flowering stages (20%).

The harvest is still in its early stages, representing just under 1% of the cultivated area, projected at 1.198.276 hectares. The estimated yield is 2.997 kg/ha.

White oats

Crops planted within the period specified by the Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning (Zarc) maintain high production potential. Climatic conditions also favored the crop, which exhibited adequate vegetative and reproductive development in most producing regions.

Approximately 7% of the crops have already been harvested. Emater/RS indicates that work should intensify in the coming weeks, as 38% of the crops are maturing. The projected area is 401.273 hectares, and productivity is 2.254 kg/ha.

Barley

With proper performance, most barley crops are in the reproductive stages: head setting (21%), grain filling (70%), and early maturity (5%). The climatic conditions of the period, such as alternating rainfall and dry weather, have favored growth and grain filling, although excess moisture in some regions can increase ear disease pressure.

Corn

Heavy rainfall hampered corn planting in several regions. In the Western Border, for example, accumulated rainfall exceeded 110 mm. This rainfall delayed planting and hampered the movement of heavy machinery in crop areas. Low temperatures also impacted plant growth, as in the Alto Uruguai region.

According to Emater/RS, the planted area increased by only 1%, reaching 73% of the projected area. The crops are developing adequately, with 99% in the vegetative stage and 1% in flowering. In the 2025/2026 harvest, the entity indicates that the corn area will reach 785.030 hectares, with an estimated productivity of 7.376 kg/ha.
