The weather conditions at the beginning of September favored the establishment of corn crops in Rio Grande do Sul. According to the Emater/RS Conjuntural Report released this Thursday (18), areas sown in August showed uniform emergence, adequate plant stand and vigorous vegetative development.

The organization notes that good water availability, combined with consecutive days of sunshine and higher temperatures, ensured the sowing progressed at a satisfactory pace. Growing conditions, both in dryland and irrigated areas, maintain favorable production potential. Monitoring of the corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis), of bedbugs and crickets continues in the newly emerged areas.

Emater/RS's projection for the 2025/26 harvest is 785.030 hectares cultivated with corn, with an estimated productivity of 7.376 kg/ha.

Beans 1st harvest

Bean planting progresses at different rates across the state, depending on regional climate conditions. Crops are in stages ranging from soil preparation to emergence, generally with adequate initial stand. Low temperatures at the end of winter delayed the start of planting in some areas.

The area allocated for cultivation is estimated at 26.096 hectares, a 15,27% decrease compared to the previous cycle. The expected average yield is 1.779 kg/ha, with a production of 46,4 tons.

Winter harvest 2024/25

Wheat: 46% of the crops are in vegetative development, 32% in flowering, and 22% in grain filling. Weather conditions have favored growth, with well-established crops and good production potential. The cultivated area covers 1.198.276 hectares, with an estimated productivity of 2.997 kg/ha.

White oats: Crops in flowering and grain filling show good performance, with expectations of high productivity.

Canola: Crops vary between flowering, grain filling, maturation, and early harvest in early areas. The projected area is 203.206 hectares, with an estimated average productivity of 1.737 kg/ha.

Barley: Crops in the elongation, earing, flowering and initial grain filling stages show good tillering and low incidence of diseases, with a positive productivity outlook.

Pastures

The combination of sunny days, high temperatures, and light rainfall stimulated the development of cultivated forage crops and the application of nitrogen fertilizers. In native pastures, vegetative stagnation led producers to remove livestock from some areas to encourage natural reseeding.
