The rice harvest in Rio Grande do Sul continues to advance, reaching 39,63% of the area planted in the State. According to data from the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga), 385.469,88 hectares were harvested.
The Western Border continues to lead the harvest, with 60,2% of the sown area already harvested, followed by the External Coastal Plain with 46,68%, Internal Coastal Plain with 40,59%, Campanha with 29,69%, Central Region with 24,97% and South Zone with 18,7%.
According to Luiz Fernando Siqueira, manager of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Division, the Western Frontier was the first to start sowing and reach 50% of the sown area in the State, consequently being the first to start the harvesting process. “The harvest is progressing normally, within our expectations”, says Siqueira.
Data on the rice harvest is collected and released weekly by Irga, through the Safra platform, which provides accurate and detailed information on the progress of sowing and harvesting. The platform is fed by Irga's 37 offices distributed throughout all rice-growing regions of the state.
