Rumo Logística, the country's railway operator, increased the volume of B100 biodiesel transported by 74% last year. In absolute numbers, the Company moved 172 thousand m3 in 2018 compared to 99 thousand m3 2017. The fuel used by the country's distributors is loaded at terminals in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and is destined for the markets of Paraná and São Paulo.
The increase in transported volume is the result of the dealership's relationship with its customers, and also the increase in product consumption. The Ministry of Mines and Energy estimates that national biodiesel production will increase from the current 5,4 to more than 10 billion liters annually by 2023, increasing domestic demand by 85%.
At the Passo Fundo terminal alone, a city in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, the volume loaded last year by the Company grew 49%. In 2018, fuel loading resumed in the cities of Ijuí (northwest of the state) and in Canoas, which is in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre (RS).
The B100's final destinations are the domestic markets of Paraná and São Paulo. To serve the state of São Paulo, the wagons are unloaded at the Araucária terminal, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba (PR), and from there the fuel continues traveling by highway.
