Rice price continues to fall

Paddy rice prices continue to fall in the spot market in Rio Grande do Sul. According to Cepea employees, some of the agents are away from negotiations, awaiting a “realignment” between the values ​​of paddy rice and those of the beneficiary. Furthermore, rain in some regions of the state at the end of last week made it difficult to load lots already sold and reduced interest in new negotiations.

Thus, between October 13th and 19th, the ESALQ/SENAR-RS Indicator for rice 58% whole grains fell 1%, closing at R$ 72,52/sc of 50 kg this Tuesday, 19th. In the partial accumulated for this month (from September 30th to October 19th), the drop is 2,76%.

Globally, USDA data indicates that global rice availability is expected to continue increasing, with production growth expected for the 2021/22 season. In Brazil, production may be limited by the smaller area allocated to the cereal and the delay in sowing in the current season, due to recent rainfall – in Rio Grande do Sul, the largest national producer, activities had reached 36% of the area predicted by last week, against 45,25% in the same period last year, according to Irga.
