Rice harvest reaches 95% of the planted area in RS

The rice harvest reached 95,02% of the area sown in the state, according to the survey carried out by the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga). The percentage represents 921.913 hectares harvested, out of a total of 970.194 hectares destined for the crop in the 2024/2025 harvest.

The Outer Coastal Plain and the Western Border are the regions closest to completing the harvest, with 99,90% and 98,62% of the harvested area, respectively. The Inner Coastal Plain accounts for 97,22%, followed by the South Zone with 97,08%, Campanha with 90,04% and the Central Region with 82,78%.

According to Luiz Fernando Siqueira, manager of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Division (Dater), the rice harvest in Rio Grande do Sul is nearing its end and should be completed in the second half of May. “It has been a very long harvest, a direct reflection of the sowing period,” explains Siqueira, emphasizing that when the process is completed, Dater will conduct a complete survey and analysis of the data, including the area harvested, productivity and area lost.
