The sale of paddy rice is slow in Rio Grande do Sul. With the favorable climate, rice farmers are focused on sowing activities – which are progressing quickly in the state – and have not shown interest in negotiating to “make cash” – only those with commitments bank employees have been active in recent days. Furthermore, according to Cepea employees, some agents have reported a preference for using their own stocks.

Between October 8 and 15, the ESALQ/SENAR-RS Indicator, 58% whole grains, which involves the weighted average for the state, remained practically stable (+0.1%), closing at R$46,08/50 kg bag this Tuesday, 15. Faced with a scenario of low liquidity, including that of the beneficiary, due to the difficulty in passing on costs, rice processing and sales in RS fell 4,1% from January to September 2019, in the comparison with the same period last year, totaling 5,5 million tons, according to data from Irga (Instituto Rio Grandense de Arroz). In part of the crop year (between March and September), negotiations totaled 4,3 million tons, 6,6% below the quantity recorded in the same months last year.
