Brazil's rice exports will see strong demand for Central American countries in 2025. In the first quarter of the year, the main destinations for the hulled product were Senegal, Mexico, Gambia, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Between April and June, Costa Rica, in particular, is expected to confirm a purchase of over 200 tons.
Given this scenario, the Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz) is warning producers to be alert to opportunities for shipments of the cereal, aiming at the good performance of the domestic market. According to the president of the entity, Alexandre Velho, this external demand for Brazilian rice will have repercussions for the sector not only for this year. “In the next agricultural year, producers will also feel the impact of this demand”, he observes.
In March, a deal was made for 30 thousand tons to Mexico at a price of R$82,00 per 50-kilo bag at the Port of Rio Grande. The operation brought an important indication to the market, especially in light of the scenario of fluctuations in recent months. The value was considered positive, both due to the representativeness of the export and its capacity to influence domestic prices.
Rio Grande do Sul accounts for around 70% of national production and has consolidated logistics capacity to meet international demand, especially via the Port of Rio Grande, which is one of the main outlets for rice produced in the State.
