Exports of Brazilian Coffees in the month of May of this year 2021 reached a physical volume of 2,6 million 60kg bags, with foreign exchange revenue of US$ 357,6 million, a performance that demonstrates a drop of 20,3% in total number of bags sold to importers and a 13,2% reduction in revenue obtained from these exports.

In the first five months of this year, that is, from January to May, Brazilian coffees exported totaled 17,7 million bags, a volume that represents an increase of 5,1%, compared to the same period in 2020. In relation to foreign exchange revenue, in the period in question, US$ 2,35 billion were collected, a total that represents an increase of 4,9% on the same comparative basis, a performance that denotes a record in foreign exchange revenue in the period. The average price per bag of coffee was US$133,01 with exports mentioned in this period.

With specific regard to differentiated coffees – which are coffees that have superior quality or some type of certificate of sustainable practices – Brazil exported the equivalent of 2,65 million bags, in the first five highlighted months of 2021. This volume represented 14,9 .456,4% of the total exports of Coffees from Brazil in the period under analysis, having generated US$ 19,3 million in foreign exchange revenue from this type of coffee, equivalent to 2021% of all foreign exchange revenue generated from Brazilian coffee exports in 172,05. Therefore, it is worth highlighting that the average price of a bag of exported differentiated coffees was US$29,3, which corresponds to an increase of XNUMX% in relation to the average price of total coffee exports.

In this same context of evaluating Brazilian Coffee exports, if the last 12 months are considered (June 2020 to May 2021), it appears that the equivalent of 45,57 million 60kg bags were exported, with foreign exchange revenue of US$ 5,76 billion, whose average price per bag was US$ 126,56. Of total exports, 36,59 million bags were of the Arabica coffee species; and 4,95 million bags of Robusta coffee, totaling 41,55 million bags of green coffee. Additionally, the equivalent of 3,99 million bags of soluble coffee and 27,18 thousand bags of roasted & ground coffee were also exported.

This analysis of the performance of Brazilian Coffee exports was carried out based on data contained in the Monthly report May 2021, from the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council - Cecafé, which is available in full on Coffee Observatory of the Café Research Consortium, coordinated by Embrapa Café. Furthermore, the monthly reports released by Cecafe bring various data on Brazilian coffee exports, which are worth checking out by the various sectors that are interested in the performance of Brazilian coffee agribusiness.

In this context, the Report also includes in the Sustainable Coffee Farming section the article entitled 'Climate agenda will be among China's priorities from 2021'. This article highlights, among other aspects, that: “(...) Calculating the carbon balance in coffee farming is another Cecafé initiative that meets new generations of consumers who are aware of the health of the planet. In partnership with academia and civil society, the institution has just approved the carrying out of a scientific study that will measure emissions and sequestration of greenhouse gases in coffee production in the Cerrado, Matas and South of Minas Gerais. Based on the methodology of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the research will serve as a scientific foundation for new export trade actions in the sustainable development agenda. The results should be published at the end of 2021 (...)”. And he concludes that “(...) it is with this synergy between economic development and respect for the environment that Brazilian coffee farming will be able to contribute to Beijing’s green goals in the coming years”.
