The Gross Production Value – VBP of Brazilian crops was calculated for this year 2020 at R$ 448,4 billion, based mainly on the production of the last four quarters and the average prices received by agricultural producers in the months of January and February , of seventeen crops that were the subject of this research to estimate the sector's revenue.
If a ranking of the six main crops is established, in terms of revenue, it appears that soy comes first, with gross revenue estimated at R$ 160,22 billion, followed by corn, with R$ 73,83 billion , followed by sugarcane, in third, with R$61,16 billion. Next, in fourth place, herbaceous cotton stands out, with revenue estimated at R$ 42,6 billion, then coffee, in fifth, with R$ 25,11 billion, and, in sixth, orange, with revenue gross estimated at R$ 14,73 billion. In this same context, due to its prominence, it is also worth highlighting that the gross revenue of coffee farming in Minas Gerais represents 61% of the crop revenue of all Cafés in Brazil.
With regard exclusively to Brazilian Coffee crops, if a correlation is established between the VBP of all crops surveyed and the revenue from coffee production, in the six main states of the Federation that produce this crop, it can be seen that Minas Gerais, the largest producer of coffees in the country, has an estimated revenue of R$ 15,32 billion exclusively from this crop, which corresponds to 34,6% of the total VBP of its crops, which is R$ 44,22 billion. Next comes Espírito Santo, the second largest coffee producer, with an estimated gross revenue for coffee of R$4,69 billion, an amount that corresponds to 78,5% of the total collected from its crops.
Next, the state of São Paulo stands out, which is the third largest coffee producer, whose revenue from this crop is estimated at R$ 2,3 billion, a figure equivalent to 4% of its VBP from crop production. Fourth place in coffee production in the country, the state of Bahia, has an estimated gross revenue of R$ 1,14 billion, which corresponds to 4,5% of crops. In fifth place is Rondônia, which is expected to earn R$2020 million in 769 from coffee farming, a gross revenue equivalent to 22,6% of its crops. Finally, in sixth place, comes the state of Paraná in coffee production, with an estimated revenue of R$455 million, an amount that corresponds to 0,9% of the total to be collected from the state's crops.
Finally, it is also worth highlighting that the percentage share of gross revenue from coffee farming in relation to the VBP of all crops allows us to establish the following ranking in terms of the importance of coffee in the six states highlighted here. Thus, Espírito Santo stands out in first place with coffee representing 78,5% of the revenue from its crops, in second Minas Gerais with 34,6%, in third Rondônia with 22,6%, in fourth, Bahia (4,5 .4%), in fifth São Paulo (0,9%) and Paraná, which is in sixth place in this ranking, with XNUMX%.
The data and statistical figures that made it possible to carry out this analysis of the performance of the gross revenue of Cafés do Brasil, in addition to others that can be carried out, were obtained from the February 2020 edition of Gross Production Value, a study that is prepared and published monthly by the Agricultural Policy Secretariat – SPA, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply – Mapa. Said VBP is available in full on Coffee Observatory, coordinated by Embrapa Coffee.
