Researchers responsible for the Study of Quantitative and Qualitative Losses in Post-Harvest and Grain Transport at the National Supply Company (Conab) presented, this Tuesday (25), an initial report on the investigations during a workshop promoted by the Company in Brasília. The objective of the study is to determine aspects related to the losses of rice, corn and wheat grains stored in conventional warehouses located in the main Brazilian producing regions: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins.

The ongoing projects were selected by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Conab's partner in facilitating research. When completed, they should assist in decision-making and the implementation of public policies to minimize losses. The results will also form the basis for a new index for calculating the surcharge that ensures compensation for losses occurring during the storage period. Currently, this surcharge is calculated based on research carried out in other countries, with different agricultural scenarios.
