Researchers and consultants from across the country meet to discuss the future of Soy

An event held by Syngenta on Comandatuba Island brought together professionals to discuss good practices in disease management, focusing on the challenges of rust control.

During the last weekend, more than 100 researchers from various institutes, consultancies and universities in the country gathered at an event promoted by Syngenta to discuss the current scenario of disease management in soybean crops in Brazil, and the threats that the crop has faced, mainly Asian rust. With the motto 'Together driving the future of soy', the meeting highlighted the importance of partnership between industry, researchers and consultants so that conscious management can be implemented.

The country's agricultural sector has been concerned about the increased resistance of the fungus that causes rust to chemical groups such as triazolinthione, triazoles and strobilurins, as well as outbreaks of altered sensitivity to carboxamides, recently reported by FRAC. In this scenario, Syngenta understands that promoting discussions and thinking about solutions are part of its role as a leading company in the segment. Therefore, the company has been promoting a program, called Conscientious Management, which has as one of its objectives to disseminate the best agricultural practices for the effective and sustainable use of fungicides, with the support of Research Institutions and other agribusiness entities.

“For Syngenta, it is important to look at this process in an integrated way and the company’s objective is not only to guarantee the longevity of the products, but mainly the prosperity of soybean cultivation, which is one of the main pillars of the national economy” says Leandro Martinho, director of Technical Market Development at Syngenta.

During the two days of the event, information was shared about the behavior of fungi and the situation of the different chemical groups that currently exist, in addition to the various factors that can accelerate resistance. Among these variables are respect for sanitation, and the positioning of fungicides according to the characteristics of each chemical group.

The meeting also discussed the results of the “Reference Areas of Elatus” project, for which the consultants present at the event conducted more than 200 demonstration areas during the last harvest, comparing the Elatus fungicide with standard programs in each region. “The results demonstrated that Elatus continues to be the best fungicide in soybean crops, both for rust and other diseases. To maintain this performance, it is essential that its use is carried out preventively. Furthermore, it is also important that the product is applied in programs that use fungicides with other modes of action, such as triazoles and multisites”, adds the executive.
