Studies related to application technology indicate that, for cancer control, in applications carried out every 14 or 21 days, doses of up to 0,7 to 1 kg of metallic copper per hectare can be used. Regarding the volume of spray solution, the variation can be from 40 to 70 mL/m³, with the largest volume being indicated for joint management with early blight. These adjustments allowed an average reduction in the spray volume in adult orchards from 3 to 5 thousand L/ha, previously practiced, to 1 to 2 thousand L/ha.

Information on the susceptibility period of the fruits was also important in contributing to the definition of the critical period of copper protection. Applications must occur until the fruits reach 5 cm in diameter. After this phase, the fruits are resistant and applications should only be made to protect the main shoots during the summer.
