Remote work analyzes coffee crops in Rio de Janeiro

This week, a team of technicians from the National Supply Company (Conab) began research work to assess the conditions of coffee plantations in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The collection of information continues until August 21st and takes place remotely, due to the security measures adopted to combat the new coronavirus. 

To this end, Conab relies on the state network of informants made up of cooperatives, technicians from the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company (Emater-Rio) and coffee growers from the main coffee producing regions in the state. The main municipalities of interest in the research are Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Porciúncula, Varre Sai, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras and São José do Vale do Rio Preto. 

The survey will evaluate the effects of climatic conditions, presence of pests and diseases in crops, estimated cultivated area and achieved productivity, perspectives on marketing and harvest calendar. The results obtained by the Company's technicians will be included in the 3rd Survey of the 2021 Coffee Harvest, to be published on September 21st on Conab's official channels.
