The main vegetables sold wholesale became cheaper in the last month. The good result for the consumer is a reflection of the reestablishment of the supply of products in the country's Supply Centers (Ceasas), as pointed out in the 7th Prohort Bulletin, released this Tuesday (17) by the National Supply Company (Conab).

In addition to the end of the truck drivers' strike, which freed up the flow of production, the second half of the year is marked by the arrival of the harvest of several crops, as in the case of onions, which registered a 40,85% drop in price at Ceasa in Recife . From the second semester onwards, vegetable production is spread across the country with producers from the Northeast, Southeast and Center-West supplying the main wholesale markets. With more product on the national market, the possibility of importing has also fallen, which helps reduce prices.

Also following the downward trends were tomatoes, which had the biggest drop recorded in Fortaleza (42,2%), lettuce, with the highlight being a reduction of 54,5% in Recife, carrots, with a reduction of 41,4% in Goiânia, and potatoes with a drop of 30,6% in Rio de Janeiro.

Fruit prices should weigh on the monthly bill. When analyzing the behavior of wholesale sales, an increase was observed in three of the products analyzed. The greater demand for apples influences the increase of up to 16,9% registered in Rio de Janeiro. The low supply of papaya boosted the increase in prices. In the case of bananas, the entry of fruit from Colombia and Paraguay resulted in an increase in wholesale prices.

Watermelon and orange even registered a drop in at least four centers analyzed. But, while watermelon is expected to continue to decline in the coming months, orange tends to see a lower supply of the product on the market, as the industry is expected to intensify demand for the fruit for crushing.

To ease your pocket and save money at the fair, some important price drops were recorded for peach (14%), jabuticaba and soursop (11%), passion fruit (9%), watercress (26%), arugula (18%), beetroot (16%), radish and jiló (12%), cauliflower and eggplant (11%).
