Embrapa Soja and the companies supporting the Low Carbon Soy Program (Bayer, Bunge, Cargill, Coamo, Cocamar, GDM, UPL) will hold on April 11th, starting at 8:30 am, the 1st Low Carbon Soy Forum, at Parque de Ney Braga Exhibition, during the Londrina Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition – Smart Agro Pavilion, to debate the global panorama and the Brazilian situation in the context of low-carbon agriculture.

“We are in line with global demands to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in chains and products”, declares the general head of Embrapa Soja, Alexandre Nepomuceno. “In this sense, I understand that a sectoral innovation effort is needed to stimulate mitigation, carbon sequestration and carbon capture and storage in the soy production process. Our proposal is to recognize Brazilian rural producers who have already been using sustainable technologies, as well as expanding the adoption of systems guided by sustainability”, argues Nepomuceno.
The event will bring together approximately 150 agribusiness leaders to promote the exchange of information and discussions that contribute to sustainability in production processes. To address the opportunities, perspectives and production trends within the scope of low-carbon agriculture, the Forum will feature a lecture by the Director of the Department of Development of Production Chains and Geographical Indications of the Secretariat of Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation and Cooperatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), Fabiana Villa. The technical program will also include a lecture on the challenges of sustainability certification in the Low Carbon Soy Program, a topic to be addressed by Embrapa Soja researcher, Henrique Debiasi. The researcher will describe how the innovation process that encompasses the certification of soy produced in sustainable systems in Brazil has been built.
Another highlight of the Low Carbon Soy Forum's programming will be the Talk Show with the participation of seven representatives from the soy production chain: Bayer, Bunge, Cargill, Coamo cooperative, Cocamar cooperative, GDM and UPL. The proposal is for participants to share how their participation in the construction of the Brazilian good agricultural practice protocol has been and how the Low Carbon Soy Program can contribute to the advances of all links in the soy production chain.
