The 39th Soy Research Meeting (RPS), to be promoted by Embrapa Soja, on June 26th and 27th, 2024, in Londrina (PR), registration is open on the event's official website. The RPS should bring together approximately 500 professionals involved in the production chain - technicians, researchers, teachers, producers and academics. The event is considered the main forum for national soybean farming, and its objective is to present the main advances in research, discuss the difficulties occurring in the soybean harvest and promote the exchange of experiences and information between those involved in the soybean chain.

The president of RPS Claudine Seixas, a researcher at Embrapa Soja, explains that the event's schedule will include discussions on market trends, new technologies and news that impact the soy production system. “Panels and lectures will also be promoted on topics relevant to soybeans, which will address current affairs and challenges in the production systems in which soybean cultivation is inserted”, says Claudine.

The technical program will feature themes related to Genetics and Breeding, Ecology, Physiology and Cultural Practices of Plant Nutrition, Fertility and Soil Biology, Entomology, Weeds, Phytopathology, Seed Technology, Post-Harvest and Food Safety. In addition, debates will be promoted regarding major themes that cut across agricultural and research activities, such as Low Carbon Soy, Digital Agriculture, Genetics and new Biotechnology and Bioinputs tools.

Relare

In partnership with RPS, the 20th Meeting of the Network of Laboratories for Recommendation, Standardization and Dissemination of Microbial Inoculant Technologies of Agricultural Interest (Relare) will be held. Created in the mid-1980s, the main objective of this event is to bring together researchers, teachers, technicians, rural producers and representatives of the national bio-input industries, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and other public authorities, to discuss and exchange experiences about challenges, trends and what is current about microbiological inoculant technology of agricultural interest.

Relare aims to help transfer research results to industry; help standardize rules for the certification of quality organic products; stimulate the national market by promoting the use of new products and support the dissemination of new technologies associated with the use of microorganisms that promote plant growth in Brazil.

Soy in Brazil

In the 2022/23 harvest, Brazil produced approximately 150 million tons of soybeans, on around 44 million hectares, according to the National Supply Company (Conab), which keeps the country in the world leadership in grain production, followed by United States and Argentina.

Soybean cultivation has grown the most in Brazil over the last five decades, so much so that from 1973 to 2023, production increased 38 times, jumping from 3,2 million to approximately 150 million tons. The average Brazilian productivity is 3.500Kg/ha and the main producing states, in the 22/23 harvest, were: Mato Grosso (45 million tons), Paraná (22 million tons) and Rio Grande do Sul (13 million tons ).
