Owners of tractors and agricultural machines from all over Brazil, who travel on public roads, have until October this year to register their vehicles with the National Registry of Tractors and Agricultural Machines (Renagro). Decree 11.014, which regulates the measure, was published in the Official Gazette of the Union in March of this year to, among other objectives, increase security in relation to theft, robbery and other incidents involving this type of machinery.

In general terms, Renagro creates a database with information on agricultural vehicles at a national level. In this way, when registering these assets, the rural producer receives the Renagro document, which serves to certify ownership of their machinery, also bringing more security to the purchase and sale operations of these vehicles.

This document contains basic information about the vehicle, its owner and other data that proves the registration. It can be presented physically or digitally, but it is mandatory that the owner is in possession of this document when the vehicle is traveling on public roads. In the case of machinery that does not travel on public roads or that was manufactured before 2016, registration is optional.

“Renagro is very important, even more so these days when we have many reports of machinery theft. The document ends up being additional security for rural producers”, highlights Heli Assunção, technician from the Technical Department (Detec) of the FAEP/SENAR-PR System.

Importers, manufacturers, companies authorized by manufacturers to sell or provide technical assistance to tractors and agricultural machinery, such as dealerships, must pre-register these vehicles, informing the model, place of production, name and professional registration of the technician responsible, code of chassis, year of manufacture, dimensions, in addition to mandatory items for transit on public roads. Currently, apart from the invoice, there is no document that proves ownership of these vehicles.

Pre-registration on behalf of the owner includes verification of ownership registration of the tractor or agricultural machine, demonstrated by means of an invoice or document with public faith in the name of the owner and engraving of the chassis code on the tractor or agricultural machine , with no signs of adulteration.

After carrying out the documentary analysis, which includes checking the ownership record of the tractor or agricultural machine, the producer will have access to his Renagro document. This process is all done through a federal government electronic platform. The owner will also be able to paste a QR Code on the vehicle with their information to facilitate inspection.
