Factors such as light, soil quality, climate and disease resistance can directly influence tomato cultivation. Elements that the producer must consider when looking for the material that best fits his property.

Therefore, thinking about the different realities that exist in the country and to guarantee productivity and quality for the farmer, Topseed Premium, a line of high-tech seeds from Agristar do Brasil, develops its tomato hybrids by analyzing their behavior and evolution in each region, through experimental stations located in strategic areas in São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina.

The specialist in Tomatoes and Peppers at Agristar do Brasil, Thiago Teodoro, explains that it is necessary to have knowledge about the different regions of the country, so that it is possible to select the best products to meet the specific needs of each producer.

“Firstly, we need to understand how the national tomato market works. Today we have work focused on selecting and getting to know a hybrid very well before taking it to the field, which is why we rely heavily on our experimental stations, where we test at different times of the year”, he points out.

He further explains that, from there, the type of tomato, the quality of the fruit, tolerance to diseases and its productive potential are observed, as each region of the country has a specific climate. “That’s why it’s important to have experimental stations to have a national scope of product selection”, says the expert.

After the internal testing phases, we also tested producers in a more regionalized way, performing a filter and identifying the best hybrid for a given location. Only after these steps do we begin the seed production phases for commercialization”, reveals Teodoro.

The development process is carried out to obtain a greater guarantee of successful cultivation. “We are growing and maturing. We already have a good technical know-how in the tomato market, which becomes a differentiator”, concludes the specialist.

Agristar do Brasil has a broad and diversified portfolio of tomatoes, increasingly seeking to incorporate and improve resistance packages according to what each region needs.

Release 2021

The Garra tomato is Topseed Premium's launch for 2021. One of its differentiating features is leaf health, which is important for the rainy season, as it is a complicated time for tomato production.

Another highlight of the Garra tomato is related to the resistance package, as it presents double resistance to viruses: TYLCV (geminivirus) and TSWV (Vira-cabea), which cause great economic damage to the tomato crop, in addition to other requirements such as excellent uniformity of fruit and very good post-harvest.

“It is a very safe product and suitable for critical production periods in the Southeast, Central-West and some areas of the Northeast”, says specialist Thiago Teodoro.
